Itinerary

Half Day Temple of the Moon Hike in Cusco

  1. Plaza de Armas & Historic Center (Highlight)

We begin at the heart of the Inca capital. Your guide explains Cusco’s transformation from Inca urban planning to colonial architecture.

We walk past the famous Piedra de los 12 Ángulos, an icon of precision stonework.

  1. San Blas & Scenic Ascent

We ascend through the artistic San Blas neighborhood, gradually leaving the city behind as panoramic views open up.

  1. Inca Trail Entrance – Sacsayhuamán Area

We enter ancient sections of the Qhapaq Ñan within the archaeological surroundings of Sacsayhuamán.

  1. Temple of the Monkeys (Highlight)

Rock formations carved with howler monkeys and serpents, symbols of the jungle world in Andean cosmology.
We also observe ceremonial spaces dedicated to Pachamama (Mother Earth).

  1. Temple of the Moon (Highlight)

The mystical Temple of the Moon is carved into limestone rock and features:

  • Sacred caves
  • Ceremonial stone altars
  • Animal carvings
  • A solar alignment point (Inca sun clock)

This was likely a ceremonial and initiation site connected to feminine lunar energy.

We pause here for interpretation and snacks.

  1. Cristo Blanco Viewpoint (Highlight)

We finish at Cristo Blanco, the best panoramic viewpoint over Cusco, with views of the massive megalithic walls of Sacsayhuamán.

  1. Return via Original Inca Trail (Highlight)

We descend along original Inca pathways and return to the Plaza de Armas.
