Sacred Valley Tour – 1-Day Cultural and Scenic Experience

Discover the Best of the Sacred Valley in One Unforgettable Day

Short on time but eager to explore the wonders of the Sacred Valley of the Incas? At Andes Peru Expeditions, we’ve designed three unique day tour options so you can experience the valley’s highlights at your own pace, far from the crowds. Travel with a local expert guide, enjoy breathtaking landscapes, discover ancient Inca sites, and connect with the living Andean culture.

What Will You Visit on This Tour?

Throughout the day, you’ll explore iconic and lesser-known sites such as:

  • Moray Agricultural Terraces (3,176 m.a.s.l.): an ancient Inca agricultural lab with unique circular terraces and distinct microclimates.
  • Maras Salt Mines (3,391 m.a.s.l.): thousands of dazzling white salt pools, still harvested by local families using pre-Inca techniques.
  • Ollantaytambo (2,792 m.a.s.l.): a charming Inca town with massive terraces, sacred temples, and narrow stone streets still in use today.
  • Pisac Archaeological Site (2,972 m.a.s.l.): one of the largest and most impressive ruins in the valley, perched high in the mountains.
  • Pisac Handicraft Market: a great place to find unique souvenirs like handmade textiles, jewelry, and ceramics.
  • Chinchero (3,760 m.a.s.l.): a traditional Andean village where local women proudly demonstrate their ancestral weaving techniques.
  • All this surrounded by stunning scenery: snow-capped peaks like Verónica and Chicón, rolling green valleys, and the winding Urubamba River.

What Makes This Sacred Valley Tour So Unique?

  • This is a fun and flexible private tour of the Sacred Valley, led by a friendly local guide from Cusco who loves to share the history and culture of the Andes.
  • You’ll visit amazing places like the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, a stunning example of ancient architecture and engineering.
  • You’ll also explore the circular terraces of Moray, once used by the Incas for farming experiments, and the beautiful salt pools of Maras, where locals still harvest salt by hand just like their ancestors did.
  • Enjoy incredible views of the Sacred Valley, with mountains, rivers, and snow-covered peaks like Veronica and Chicón all around you.
  • If you’re planning to hike to Machu Picchu, this tour is a great way to spend an easy day getting used to the altitude while still seeing the highlights of the valley.
  • Unlike big group tours, you won’t feel rushed or crowded. You’ll have time to ask questions, take photos, and really enjoy each place at your own pace.
  • And if you’re staying in Ollantaytambo or Urubamba — no problem! We’ll adjust everything to fit your schedule and location.

FAQ

Is the Sacred Valley tour worth it if I already have Machu Picchu planned?

Yes, it’s definitely worth it! The Sacred Valley is a must-see if you’re visiting Machu Picchu. While Machu Picchu is famous for being an ancient city, the Sacred Valley was the heart of the Inca Empire. It’s full of history, culture, and stunning landscapes.

On the tour, you’ll visit amazing places like Ollantaytambo and Pisac, explore the salt mines of Maras, and see the unique Moray terraces. Plus, the views of the valley with its snowy mountains are breathtaking.

The tour is also a great way to help you adjust to the altitude before you head to Machu Picchu.

So yes, even though Machu Picchu is the highlight of your trip, the Sacred Valley is an experience you won’t want to miss!

What is the Sacred Valley Tourist Ticket?

The Tourist Ticket gives you access to several of the most important archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley. With this pass, you can explore amazing places like Chinchero, Moray, Ollantaytambo, and Pisac — without needing to buy separate tickets for each site.

The ticket is valid for one day and is a convenient and affordable way to experience the best of the valley. We can easily include the ticket in your tour package, or if you prefer, you can buy it yourself at the first site we visit. The price is around 70 soles per person (about $21 USD).

It’s a great option if you want to make the most of your time in the Sacred Valley during your stay in Cusco.

What is the Entrance Ticket to the Maras Salt Mines?

The Entrance Ticket to the Maras Salt Mines gives you access to this fascinating site, home to over 3,000 salt pools that have been used since Inca times. During your visit, you’ll see how local families still harvest salt by hand and enjoy a truly unique landscape.

The ticket is valid for one day. We’ll be happy to include it in the total cost of your tour, or if you prefer, you can pay for it directly at the entrance. The price is around 20 soles per person (approximately $6 USD).

It’s a great addition to your Sacred Valley tour and a wonderful way to experience one of the region’s oldest traditions.

Why is the entrance to the Maras Salt Mines not included in the Sacred Valley Tourist Ticket?

The entrance to the Maras Salt Mines is not included in the Sacred Valley Tourist Ticket because the site has been managed directly by the local communities since 1999. Unlike the archaeological sites that are overseen by the government, the salt mines are community-owned, and the entrance fee supports the families who live and work there.

This community-based management helps preserve the ancient tradition of salt harvesting, which dates back to Inca times, and promotes responsible tourism. By paying the entrance fee at the site, you are directly supporting the local economy and helping the community continue their way of life.

What’s the difference between the 3 Sacred Valley tour options?

  • Classic Sacred Valley Tour
This is a relaxed guided experience that allows you to explore the main archaeological sites in more depth. You’ll visit Pisac, Maras, Moray, and Ollantaytambo, with enough time at each place to truly enjoy the history, culture, and scenery.
  • Best Sacred Valley Tour
This tour focuses on the western side of the Sacred Valley. It’s a great option if you have limited time. You’ll visit Chinchero, Moray, the Salt Mines of Maras, and Ollantaytambo. Since these sites are close to each other, you’ll have more time to explore without feeling rushed.
  • Ultimate Sacred Valley Tour
Ideal for travelers who want to see all the must-visit spots in one day. This tour includes Ollantaytambo, Moray, Maras, Chinchero, and Pisac. Because of the extended itinerary, the pace is a bit faster. If you prefer a more relaxed visit, the first or second option might suit you better.
