Tired of 3:00 a.m. wake-up calls and crowded viewpoints? Our Rainbow Mountain Private Tour is designed to be different. We start later in the morning so you can enjoy a relaxed pace, skip the busiest hours, and truly connect with the Andes without the stress of big groups.
This tour is ideal for travelers who want an exclusive, authentic, and peaceful experience at one of Peru’s most breathtaking natural wonders.
Also known as Vinicunca, Rainbow Mountain rises at 5,036 meters (16,522 feet) in the heart of the Peruvian Andes. Its striking colors—created by mineral deposits such as iron (red), sulfur (yellow), and copper (green)—make it one of the most photographed landscapes in South America. Experiencing it on a Private Tour ensures you enjoy this wonder with fewer people around, giving you time for photos, quiet moments, and a deeper connection with nature.
Unlike standard group tours that leave at dawn, our late departure means you’ll enjoy:

It’s especially suited for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking to experience the Andes in a more personal way. You don’t need to be an expert hiker, but good physical condition and proper acclimatization to the altitude are recommended.

Keep an eye out for llamas and alpacas grazing peacefully in the high valleys! As you climb, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the red mountains and the magnificent Ausangate Glacier, which accompany you throughout the journey.

Yes, absolutely! Doing the Rainbow Mountain tour in just one day is definitely worth it—especially if you choose a well-organized tour with a late departure, like our private experience. Even though it’s a full-day trip, the incredible views of the colorful mountain, the surrounding Andes, and the chance to see llamas, alpacas, and the Ausangate glacier make it unforgettable.
By leaving later in the morning, you avoid the crowds and can enjoy the trail at a more relaxed pace. You don’t need to spend the night outside of Cusco or be an experienced hiker—if you’re in good physical condition and well-acclimated to the altitude, the hike is totally doable.
In short: if you have one free day in Cusco and want to see one of the most unique landscapes in the Andes, Rainbow Mountain is a fantastic choice!
The main difference is the level of comfort, flexibility, and the overall experience.
On a group tour, you share the transport and guide with many people. The schedule is fixed, there’s less time to enjoy the mountain, and you’ll likely be there with large crowds. Most group tours also leave very early in the morning, which means you’ll arrive at the viewpoint when it’s the busiest.
On the other hand, the private tour offers a much more personalized experience. You can go at your own pace, enjoy the trail without rushing, and get the full attention of a professional local guide. Our tour also leaves later in the morning, so you avoid the big crowds and enjoy a quieter, more relaxed visit.
If you value privacy, fewer people, and a deeper connection with nature and local culture, the private tour is definitely the best choice.
Altitude can affect some people, especially if they are not well acclimatized. That’s why we recommend spending at least one or two days in Cusco before doing any tour, to help your body adjust.
During the tour, your safety is our top priority. Our guide is trained to recognize the symptoms of altitude sickness and take action quickly. We always carry a first aid kit and an emergency oxygen bottle just in case. If you start feeling unwell at any point, your condition will be assessed, and if necessary, you can return to the starting point with the help of an emergency horse.
Keep in mind that this is a moderately difficult hike, so you don’t need to be an athlete, but you should be in good physical condition and properly acclimatized to enjoy the experience safely.
Yes, there are basic restroom facilities available along the route, usually at the starting point and at some points along the trail. However, keep in mind that these are simple, rural toilets managed by local communities, so it’s a good idea to bring your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer just in case.
The weather at Rainbow Mountain can change quickly and without warning. Mornings are usually cold, but as the day goes on, you may experience sun, wind, or even rain—all within a few hours. That’s why dressing in layers is essential.
Here’s what we recommend bringing:
Pick-up is at 7:00 AM directly from your hotel in Cusco.
Yes, PayPal payments are accepted with a 6% fee. Cash payments are collected one day before the tour at your hotel.
No briefing is needed for this tour; all logistics are coordinated during hotel pick-up.
Yes, you can swap the traditional lunch for a box lunch if you prefer to eat during the hike.
Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) sits at high altitude (over 5,000 meters / 16,500 ft), so the weather can change quickly. Expect cold mornings, strong sun during the day, and possible wind or light rain. Temperatures can range from -5°C (23°F) early morning to 10°C (50°F) in the afternoon. The dry season is from April to November, however, the weather can change at any time in the mountains, including snow. Weather forecasts are often unreliable at high altitude, so always bring warm layers, a waterproof jacket, and sun protection.
