Huchuy Qosqo, also known as “Little Cusco,” is a fascinating archaeological site in Peru, located high above the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Just 8 kilometers (5 miles) northeast of Cusco—the historic capital of the Inca Empire—this ancient complex once served as an important administrative, ceremonial, and residential center during Inca times.
Exploring Huchuy Qosqo allows travelers to admire well-preserved Inca stone walls, agricultural terraces, and remarkable constructions that highlight the impressive engineering skills of the Incas. From its strategic location, the site offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding Andean mountains and valleys, creating an atmosphere that is both mystical and awe-inspiring. Historians believe Huchuy Qosqo was once a retreat for Inca nobility, where high-ranking officials and their families lived surrounded by the beauty of the Sacred Valley of Peru.
The Huchuy Qosqo Trek is one of the most authentic ways to experience this hidden gem. The trail follows ancient Inca paths, crossing picturesque ravines, stone-paved sections, and dramatic Andean landscapes. Along the route, travelers may encounter Andean wildlife, including the majestic condor soaring high above the mountains. Unlike the crowded Classic Inca Trail, this trek offers a unique off-the-beaten-path adventure in Peru, perfect for those seeking a more intimate experience.
In just a few days of hiking, the Huchuy Qosqo Trek combines history, culture, and breathtaking scenery, culminating in the visit to Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. This journey is ideal for adventurous travelers who want to go beyond the typical routes and enjoy a deeper connection with the past and present of Peru.

Our campsite for the night is a truly unique location—right on one of the ancient agricultural terraces of the Huchuy Qosqo archaeological site (3,600 m / 11,808 ft). Spending the night here offers a magical experience, surrounded by history and incredible mountain views.
After enjoying a delicious local breakfast, we begin the day by exploring the archaeological site of Huchuy Qosqo in depth. Accompanied by your expert guide, you will discover temples, ceremonial fountains, Inca houses, agricultural terraces, and sacred spaces that reveal the ingenuity of the Inca civilization in Peru. As you explore, your guide will share the fascinating history and cultural significance of this “Little Cusco.”
Once the visit is complete, we start our descent into the valley, following scenic switchback trails for about 3 hours until we reach the town of Lamay (3,000 m / 9,840 ft), located in the heart of the Sacred Valley. From Lamay, we take private transport to Ollantaytambo (2,840 m / 9,315 ft), one of the last living Inca towns. Here we stop to enjoy a traditional lunch surrounded by Andean landscapes.
In the afternoon, we board the train that will take us through the Urubamba Valley toward Aguas Calientes (also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo). During this scenic ride, you’ll witness the dramatic transition from the high Andes to the lush cloud forest. Upon arrival, you will check in at your hotel and enjoy dinner, resting and preparing for the highlight of the journey: Machu Picchu.
Today is the highlight of the journey: a visit to the legendary Machu Picchu, the Inca City in the Clouds and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. After an early breakfast, we take the bus up from Aguas Calientes to the entrance of the Machu Picchu Archaeological Site, located high in the Andes Mountains of Peru.
Your expert guide will lead you on a 2-hour walking tour, exploring the most remarkable temples, terraces, ceremonial sites, and sacred areas of this white granite city. As you walk through its impressive stone constructions, you will uncover the history, engineering, and spiritual significance of Machu Picchu.
After the guided tour, you will have the option to enjoy additional hikes—either Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain (subject to availability and prior booking). Both offer incredible panoramic views of the citadel and the surrounding Andean landscape.
We then take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll have time to relax, enjoy a coffee, a refreshing drink, or a traditional Peruvian meal while waiting for your train. In the afternoon, you board the scenic train to either Ollantaytambo or Poroy station, where our private transport will be waiting to drive you back to Cusco. Upon arrival, we will drop you off at your hotel, marking the end of this unforgettable adventure in Peru.
