Your 1-day horseback riding tour to the 7 Lakes of Ausangate begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Cusco between 4:00 and 4:10 a.m. We’ll drive for about 3 hours through the scenic South Valley, passing small Andean villages such as Ocongate and Tinki, while enjoying views of snow-capped mountains and traditional farmlands.
Upon arrival at Pacchanta, a welcoming Andean family will serve us a fresh, homemade breakfast prepared with local ingredients. This community lies at the base of the majestic Ausangate Mountain (6,384 m / 20,945 ft), one of the most sacred peaks in the Cusco region.
After breakfast, we’ll meet our horses and begin our uphill ride toward Ausangate. Along the way, we’ll stop at a local alpaca farm, where you’ll have the chance to interact with hundreds of alpacas of different colors, feed them, and take unforgettable photos. You can also enjoy a hot cup of coffee or coca tea while admiring the peaceful Andean scenery.
The horseback trail continues through stunning highland landscapes until we reach the 7 Lakes of Ausangate, each displaying incredible shades of turquoise, emerald, and deep blue. Your guide will explain the origins, colors, and legends behind each lake — including Comercocha (Green Lake), Patacocha, Azulcocha, and China Otorongo. This area is home to glaciers, wild vicuñas, and views that feel straight out of a dream.
After exploring and taking plenty of photos, we’ll return on horseback to Pacchanta, where you’ll have time to relax in the natural hot springs surrounded by snowy peaks. These thermal waters are believed to have healing and rejuvenating properties, making them the perfect way to end your adventure.
We’ll then enjoy a traditional Andean lunch prepared by our host family before driving back to Cusco, arriving around 6:30 p.m.
